Salva (Frite Nite, SF)

“For a good while now, the main man behind San Francisco’s Frite Nite label, Paul Salva, has stood firmly behind his label, making sure its delivery of futuristic, eclectic electronic music ran smoothly as it remained tasteful and interesting. But the label head makes music too, under the name Salva, and next year will see the release of his own full-length album, Complex Housing. …Salva’s new tune is a pristine slice of squelching, synth-driven funk, albeit ‘funk’ that sounds like it comes from a whole other time and place. Its impressively infectious melodies are rivaled only by the smashing beats that surround them. The soundscape is fully realized with the addition of warm, warbling ambiance in the background. B. Bravo (Frite Nite, SF)

B. Bravo (Adam Mori), a West Coast California native, brings his own sound of synthesizer funk to any track he lays hands on, whether in the studio, behind the turntables in the club, or performing his music live on stage. As an original member of the Frite Nite crew based in San Francisco, he is also a driving force in the Modern Funk Movement, spearheaded by LA’s Dam-Funk. Bravo’s DJ sets include melody-infused Dubstep, UK Funky, and original Future Funk bangers, all loaded with full helpings of bass. His live set (showcasing original material played live with samplers, synths, keyboards and vocoder) was unleashed this year to the masses and has received rave reviews from crowds and music lovers alike.

Epcot (Frite Nite, SF)

Hailing from San Francisco as a writer/MC/DJ, Epcot has been releasing and touring music on an international stage for the last 10 years. As an MC, he has worked with everyone from Tipper, Si Begg and The Glitch Mob, to Salva, Eprom, NastyNasty, Mimosa and Lorn, just to name a few. His tunes have been championed around the globe by radio and club DJ’s alike, including Rob Da Bank, Annie Mac, Mary Anne Hobbs, Giles Peterson and Annie Nightingale. With multiple international tours under his belt, as well as appearances at Bestival and Fabric, many mics have been torched across the globe. As a DJ, Ep has a reputation for playing all sub-genres of progressive bass music with the skill of a turntablist wiz.

TOKiMONSTA (Brainfeeder)

Born and raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, TOKiMONSTA (Jennifer Lee) was an unfocused pupil of classical piano. However, she has come to use this background to create vast textural soundscapes by utilizing live instruments, percussion, digital manipulation, and dusty vinyl. Through the creation of beats, she is able to fuse vintage sounds with progressive styles into something unique.

Shlohmo (Friends of Friends, Wedidit)

LA native Henry Laufer may be a young fella, but the 19-year-old producer, better known as Shlohmo, has rocketed on to our radar screen in recent months with his lo-fi, psychedelic mix of abstract hip-hop, dubstep-flavored wonk, bouncy synth-funk, breezy trip-hop, and what sounds like lost gems from the mid-’90s Mo’ Wax catalog. Now splitting time between San Francisco and LA, in January Shlohmo will be releasing theShlohmoshun Deluxe mini-album.

Daedelus (Ninja Tune, Brainfeeder)

LA’s most daring new artists wears a buzzing halo. This young musical romantic weaves together a true “love-sound” that falls between honeyed melody and avant-electronics. Daedelus chops and splices disparate acoustic sources into incredible works of staggering resonance.
